Fernanda has been an outstanding attorney with the Law Office of Robert L. Lewis since 2008. She successfully represented many asylum applicants and won numerous other defenses to deportation in the immigration courts. Fernanda is a leading practitioner in legal immigration status for persons who have been the victims of domestic violence and other violent crimes.
Fernanda grew up in a family of immigrants and speaks both English and Spanish fluently. Her commitment to immigrant rights began before law school, when she volunteered countless hours at the East Bay Sanctuary Covenant as an interpreter for asylum applicants, most of whom were from Central America.
Fernanda was the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships throughout her academic career. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, and graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Francisco. During her time in law school, she collaborated on a project led by the U.C. Hastings Center for Gender and Refugee Studies which took her to Guatemala where she interviewed experts and witnesses about gender-based violence. Her work at internships during law school benefitted hundreds of clients at Centro Legal de la Raza, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, and the East Bay Sanctuary Covenant.
Fernanda is a talented musician and folkloric dancer who performs with Ensambles Ballet Folklorico de San Francisco and the Instituto Mazatlan de Bellas Artes, and with the De Rompe y Raja Cultural Association.
